Dear “Quiet Ride” That Turned Into a Loud, Confused GPS Podcast

I selected Quiet Ride for a reason. A clear reason. A simple reason. A reason rooted in peace, silence, and my desire to not engage with the world for 22 uninterrupted minutes.

What I received instead was a third party narrator screaming directions from your phone to a destination we were very clearly not going to.

“TURN LEFT IN 500 FEET.”

We did not turn left.

We did not need to turn left.

We were not even emotionally aligned with that left.

And yet, the voice persisted. Confident. Aggressive. Unbothered by reality.

“RECALCULATING.”

Yes. Please do. For all of us.

At first I thought maybe it would stop. Maybe it was a momentary glitch. A brief technological hiccup.

No.

This was a full commitment. A journey. A parallel universe where your phone was determined to get us somewhere else entirely, and loudly narrate that failure every 30 seconds.

Meanwhile, you said nothing. Which, to your credit, technically honored the Quiet Ride request.

You were silent.

But your phone?

Your phone had thoughts.

Your phone had opinions.

Your phone had a very strong desire to reroute our lives.

At one point I started questioning myself.

Are we going the wrong way?

Am I in the wrong car?

Is this how it ends?

“MAKE A U TURN.”

No.

You make a U turn.

Emotionally. Spiritually. Technologically.

By the time we arrived, I felt like I had just completed a group project with someone who refused to follow instructions but remained extremely vocal about it.

Sincerely,

A Passenger Who Paid for Silence

But Got Yelled At By a Robot Instead
